Apprentice Training

Program

The Apprentice Training Program will help you develop foundational skills to effectively teach language learners. The training can be taken as a 10-course sequential program, or you may also take individual courses to meet your specific professional development requirements.

What you'll learn

First of all, you need to develop a basic set of linguistic terms. Then you will explore speaking levels and descriptors. You will learn to develop realistic “I can” statements for your learners, use knowledge of input and output to properly scaffold instruction during each instructional phase, according to the curriculum you are using.

You will develop toolbox of classroom management and target language strategies to create a learner-centered, communicative acquisition environment.
Furthermore, you will learn how to properly utilize corrective feedback to build up learners’ confidence and proficiency. Finally, you will learn how to use assessment strategies to inform instruction and assess your students’ progress.

Wisebox Glossary

This asynchronous course will orient you to linguistic terms that you will encounter throughout the training courses.
Course 2

Speaking Levels and Descriptors

This course will help you better understand the language skills required for each proficiency level. ​
Course 3

I Can Statements

This course will help your students understand how to use language in real-life communicative contexts. ​
Course 4

Input-Output Spectrum

This course will help you understand how input and output activities are implemented during different phases of a lesson.
Course 5

Lesson Phases

This course will help you understand best practices that should be implemented during the major lesson phases.
Course 6

Classroom Management

This course will provide you with tools to effectively manage student behavior and participation.
Course 7

Target Language Strategies

This course will provide you with the essential tools to help students remain steadfast in the target language.
Course 8

Scaffolding

This course provides you with the most essential tools to support students' acquisition.
Course 9

Corrective Feedback

This course is an introduction to corrective feedback strategies.
Course 10

Assessment

This course will provide you with tools to conduct a variety of short-cycle assessments to measure your students' progress and preparation for more high-stakes summative assessments.
