Mentor Training

Program

The Mentor Program will help you develop skills to manage language instruction programs and effectively mentor your instructors. The training can be taken as a 10-course sequential program, or you may also take individual courses to meet your specific professional development requirements.

What you'll learn

The foundation of being a great mentor and inspiration for your teachers is to develop the learner-centered instructional approach to teaching languages and managing language programs. You’ll get a brief introduction to backward design planning and developing a course syllabus. The next part of the program focuses on learning the steps to properly mentor language educators, which will be contextualized and tailored according to your professional reality.
Next, you will acquire the skills to take efficient and actionable notes based on observations, as well as tips to provide effective teacher feedback. You will gain understanding on how to conduct mentor meetings, develop a plan of action and conduct instructor follow up.
Course 1

Learner-Centered Instruction

This course is an orientation to the communicative approach, principles of learner centeredness, adult learning, how to flip your class and set up a learner-centered classroom. ​
Course 2

Backward Design Planning

This course will help you to understand how to plan lessons using the Backward Design approach.
Course 3

Creating a Syllabus

This course will help you develop a classroom syllabus.
Course 4

Instructor Observation Flowchart

This course will introduce you to the process of mentoring instructors.
Course 5

Observation Note-taking

This course will provide you with the tools to take notes on critical points of instructional best practices during an observation.  
Course 6

Instructor Feedback

This course will help you develop skills to provide constructive post-observation feedback to instructors .
Course 7

Feedback Report

This course will help you complete an instructor feedback report to assist instructors in identifying areas of improvement.
Course 8

Mentor Meetings

This course will provide you with the necessary tools to conduct constructive mentor meetings with your instructors.
Course 9

Plan of Action

This course will prepare you to complete a plan of action for expectations for best practices and  instructional improvement.
Course 10

Instructor Follow-Up

This course will help you perform follow-up duties with instructors such as: Follow-up observations and live or asynchronous coaching.
